Was ist Grafana Loki?
Grafana Loki ist ein Open-Source-Log-Aggregationssystem von Grafana Labs, das nach dem Vorbild von Prometheus entwickelt wurde. Anders als Elasticsearch oder Splunk indexiert Loki nicht den vollstaendigen Log-Text, sondern nur die Metadaten-Labels. Dieses Indexed-by-Labels-Modell reduziert den Speicherbedarf drastisch und senkt die Betriebskosten erheblich. Die eigentlichen Log-Daten werden komprimiert in günstigem Objektspeicher wie Amazon S3 oder Google Cloud Storage abgelegt und erst bei einer Abfrage geladen. Loki ist horizontal skalierbar und hochverfuegbar ausgelegt. Einzelne Komponenten wie Distributor, Ingester, Querier und Compactor können unabhaengig voneinander skaliert werden, was Kubernetes-native Deployments besonders effizient macht. Der Boltdb-Shipper und der Compactor sorgen für ein kompaktes Schema und optimieren langfristig die Speichernutzung. Die Abfragesprache LogQL lehnt sich an PromQL an und erlaubt sowohl Log-Filterung per Label-Selector als auch metrische Auswertungen direkt aus Log-Streams. Promtail, der offizielle Agent, nutzt Prometheus-Service-Discovery für automatisches Log-Labeling in Kubernetes-Umgebungen. Die nahtlose Integration in Grafana Dashboards ist ein zentraler Vorteil: Logs, Metriken (Prometheus/Mimir) und Traces (Tempo) sind im selben Interface korrelierbar. Grafana Cloud Logs bietet Loki als vollstaendig verwalteten SaaS-Dienst an, waehrend Self-Hosted-Deployments unter der AGPLv3-Lizenz kostenfrei bleiben. Das Tool eignet sich besonders für DevOps-Teams, SREs und Cloud-Native-Projekte auf Kubernetes.
